Beginning
in 2007, the Addiction Studies Program for State Legislatures changed
its format to include leaders and key staff members from the executive
as well as the legislative branch of state government. The program is
now known as the Addiction Studies Program for the States. The program
invites governors, speakers of the house, and presidents of the senate
to request an opportunity to send a twelve-member team from their states
to attend a two and one-half day workshop. Teams include legislators,
legislative staff, governor’s staff, and agency staff and are
bi-partisan, bi-cameral, and cross-disciplinary (health, human services,
criminal justice, child welfare, appropriations, etc.). Each workshop
can accommodate two state teams. The workshops are comprised of interactive
presentations by faculty and facilitated team sessions to formulate
state plans to improve state policy and services related to drug use
and addiction. Workshop dates for 2009 and 2010 will be announced on
this website later. Workshops dates for 2007 and 2008 are:
